The beautiful Sp\u00f3rtlann Mhichael Mh\u00f3ir in Leitir M\u00f3ir once again plays host.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Funding for the competition is generously provided by the language planning officers (Oifigeach Plean\u00e1la Teanga) from Maigh Cuilinn, Ceantar D\u00faiche Sheoigheach and Bearna.<\/p>\n\n\n\n While last year saw a mixed blitz for U15 boys made up of players from both the Na Gael and Maigh Cuilinn clubs, this year sees the first inter-club competition with the U14 boys teams from Maigh Cuilinn, neighbours Bearna and Corr na M\u00f3na the inaugural participants.<\/p>\n\n\n\n A late decision was made to postpone the U14 Girls competition following the tragic death of Maigh Cuilinn player Ciara Bowden in March and there will be a minute\u2019s silence before the final of the boys competition for Ciara. It is hoped that a form of the girls tournament might be organised for the summer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The competition is intended to be a fun day of basketball and a showcase for players that basketball and the Irish language can go hand in hand. The usual Basketball Ireland rules for U14 boys pertain, save that persistent use of any language other than Irish will attract a warning and then technical foul against the offending player or coach. The refereeing and table official duties will all be conducted through Irish as will the general organisation of the day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n While the tournament will ultimately crown one team winner, the emphasis for the day is far greater than competition alone and it is hoped to engender a wider Gaeltacht Basketball camaraderie between all clubs fighting to keep the game and language alive in the Gaeltacht.<\/p>\n\n\n\n In addition to the team competition, 2024 will see the first ever Com\u00f3rtas Cispheile na Gaeltachta Hotshot competition where two players from each team (as nominated by their team), will get a chance at glory and partake in a hotshot individual scoring contest against the clock to be crowned champion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n It looks set to be a great day of craic and cispheil and the action is planned to run from 10am to 2pm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n![\"\"](\"https:\/\/moycullenbasketball.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/comortas-2023.jpg?w=1024\")
