Maree win Game 1 of the Galway Derby

A thriller of a Galway Derby whets the appetite for the return fixture Friday night (19 January) in the Kingfisher

Maree 82 (45)

Maigh Cuilinn 76 (43)

Well if that was anything to go by, the second of the Galway Derby games on Friday is one not to be missed.

In a strange scheduling occurrence arising from a postponed game in November, Maree hosted Maigh Cuilinn in the Galway Derby on Saturday (13 January) only six days before Maigh Cuilinn are to host Maree in the return fixture (19 January).

In a game that never saw more than single digits separate the sides, 12 ties and 13 lead changes, it was Maree who had the cool hand under pressure down the stretch to edge out an 82 v 76 win.

The good news for Maigh Cuilinn is that they don’t have time to dwell over a loss by such a close margin as they’ll get to right wrongs Friday night when they host Maree in the same venue, University of Galway Sports Arena.

The exact time of the Friday evening game is yet to be confirmed but keep an eye on MoycullenBasketball.net for the confirmed details.

Let’s hope for another thriller – but a Maigh Cuilinn win this time of course!
